SUMA Convention 2025 Summary
Our Town Councilors attended the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association’s 2025 Convention in Saskatoon this Spring. They were thankful for the opportunity to network with other communities and felt honored to represent Rosetown. Councilors saw several workshops with topics relating to housing concerns and health issues in other towns big and small. They saw what other local governments have in place for their community’s facilities and bylaws. They listened to Scott Moe and other speakers address the similar struggles across the province. Networking is an important part of this convention. The Councilors met the Minister of Justice, other Mayors, Administrators and Council members in sessions to discuss issues and offer solutions. The SUMA Convention also books excursions and tours to local facilities. This year, two Councilors attended the CN Railyard Tour, one explored the Black Fox Distillery, and two toured the Gordie Howe Sports Complex. The convention also has an impressive Trade Show area. Lots of great vendors attended, from water treatment companies to sewer liners, conflict mediators to arena flooring companies. There were training course, education and information booths as well. In summary, the Councilors enjoyed the team building experience and meeting other council members to discuss issues and share ideas.
