[ARCHIVED] Measles Information from SHA

Rosetown and District Health Centre

Vaccination Can Prevent Measles
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is notifying the public of an increasing risk of exposure to the measles virus.
Measles cases are being reported in many Canadian Provinces including Saskatchewan.
Two doses of measles vaccine is close to 100 per cent effective in providing lifelong protection. Boosters are not required.
How do I check if I am fully vaccinated?
Please register or log onto in MySaskHealthRecord and view your vaccination records. For those raised outside of Saskatchewan, please contact the public health office where you resided at 12 to 18 months of age to verify your vaccination status. You can also see Public Health Offices | Public Health | Government of Saskatchewan to inquire about your vaccination status. Measles vaccine is often recorded as M, MR, MMR, or MMRV on immunization records.
Who should get the vaccine?
Current recommendations
Children are routinely immunized at ages 1 year and 18 months of age.
Anyone born since 1 January 1970 (under 55 yrs of age) is eligible to receive 2 doses measles vaccine in their lifetime.
Anyone born before 1 January 1970 (over 55 yrs of age) are considered immune to measles.
Anyone born before 1957 do not require any measles vaccine as they were likely in contact with the virus as a child.
Travel outside of Canada
Infants 6-11 months travelling abroad may receive one dose of measles vaccine. (This dose will need to be repeated after the infant turns 12 months of age.)
Anyone born between 1 Jan 1957 and 31 Dec 1969 travelling abroad may be eligible to receive one dose of measles vaccine.
Note: Infants 6-11 months old travelling within Canada do not require measles vaccine early unless there is a specific
